the original plan for the forum switch was to go with a 'free' forum software. there are some pros and cons to that idea. pro: it's free
con: it's prone to security "hacks" an alternative would be to pay for a full-fledged forum software (similar to what other boards use) that comes with tech support and upgrade support. pro: more secure, and updates/tech-support
con: we have to pay for it
we can do it, and it wouldn't be that expensive if people step up. the club has $52 in the club fun right now. the forum software is $150 and then another $65 for their image gallery. basically if EIGHT people step up and kick in $20 each, we can do this if we use the club money to balance it out. So far: Goal: $210 So far: $ 90 Need: $120anyone else want to step up? i think this would be a good thing for us to do *now* so we don't have to redo things in another year or two if the club continues to grow. anyone who contributes will get special recognition as a "supporter" and i will make an effort to carry over your log-in/password and post count from this forum... and maybe a few other perks if we have enough people! also, if we want to maintain the tech support and regular updates, we would only need $55 in 2010 (and each year after that)... so it's not a bad deal in my opinion.

if people don't want to go this route, just speak up. we can keep the site and forum as-is... we can expand this forum if we want... or load up a "free" php forum. the decision isn't solely mine to make. still a topic open for discussion.

I will chip in 20 bucks. will that get ride of the ads at the top of the page? if so I am all for it. many times at work the webpage here will not work because the firewall is set high. another one you might want to look into is SMF. the SMF forums are close to what phpBB is but less problems with spammers it seems. I think they are free also.

Goal: $210 So far: $130 Need: $ 80

one thing I forgot to factor into this was the kick-back from the 4wd Hardware sponsorship. We will be getting a check for around $190 from them (just no idea when it will come). So that will really help round this out and help cover hosting and what-not.
doesn't mean everyone still kicking in $20 for the good of the order won't help things out still.
