So today I was at a rally at the State Capitol for Cyber Schools (work). While I was there, a small business expo was set up in the Rotunda. Set up was a company called "River Raider Snorkel Systems." I spoke with Kenny about the company and his plans. (Dean - you spoke with him at the York Jeep show last year). Basically, they are working on building a shop that will have a 2 acre testing facility including rocks, possible mud, and an RTI ramp. In addition to their testing facility, they will have some private land to ride on for their customers and by personal invite. That land is over 100 acres in Chambersburg and will be open for OHV and ATV and DIRTBIKES. Right now it is just a wooded area and we talked in length about trail cutting, mapping, waivers, and more. Both Kenny and I feel that River Raider and LO would make a great partnership. Over the next few weeks I'm sure he and I will work out the details about riding and sponsorships. Once I know what is happening, I will post it here. In the meantime, check out their website: www.riverraider.comIn addition to parts and service and custom one-offs, they 'gator-coat' their products (similar to power-coating but does not require baking the metal). Once I know more, you will know more.

We are looking forward to meeting everone on the trail soon. Our new shop will be open in a few months. We are planning on having a large rock crawling course and regular trail rides on 150 acres of private land near Blue Ridge Summit. ;D

Just wanted to keep everyone posted.
I spoke with Kenny today. He has some plans that he wants to do with the property - so he, Dean, and I will walk it on foot in about a week and a half. Being that it is his ground to use, he does want to set up some ground rules - basically: no trails unless he approves it. I think that is a good rule. He will give Dean and I the rundown when we get together with him - so once we know better what to expect I will let everyone else know.
He told me the exact number: 130acres. Hills, rocks, trails, woods, open play areas...sounds like a blast. Sorry I don't know if there are any mud holes yet for those of you who like that.
Random question: does anyone know somone with excavation equipment? They want to make a flat landing at the top of the mountain and regrade the access road so they can have a parking area. I'm sure if we can hook them up they will be more prone to let us ride sooner.

I'm not sure how much use we will get from a chain saw. Kenny was saying that being that the land was used for logging most of the trees are gone already - with the exception of what has grown up or was not 'good enough' to log out. By his memory of the property he feels that we can get some good trails made without having to cut down any trees. Basically, we need to clean out some underbrush. Granted a chainsaw might help with some of that - but just driving through it would work too. We will know better after the walk around.

Jim get in contact with me. I would like to walk this when you guys walk it. Also I work for Vallet Quarries so I can get access to a skid loader most of the time. I brought it home about 12 times this year. The other equipment we have is kinda hard to take unless someone has the equipment to take it there.

i think we're set skip for the initial walk through. once kenny, jim and i work out a few things, we'll organize a "crew" to come up and do some more scounting and what-not.
i also know if need be we can rent some light equipment (skid-steers, buck loaders, etc) from the local equipment place. not sure what the biggest they have is.

The biggest is usually a backhoe but some places do have bigger but the your talking big $$$ I know how to run alot of different equipment. Here is just a small list.

cool... i'll keep that in mind! i'm sure since it is their land they will front the cost of the equipment, but if we can cut them a brake on labor and opperator costs, i doubt that will be a problem.

My father has a grader. It just sits at the top of his driveway- they only use it twice a year. It is definetly an antique, but it works. The big problem will be transportation; we don't have a way to haul it. Let me know if anyone is interested, I'll help out where I can. If River Raider Snorkles is in need of an industrial electrician, I'll work for a snorkle!
