let's go back in time shall we?
the year is 2004... my old 1987 cherokee blew up in May on my trip home from college a year ealier and i was finally in the market for a new jeep. wanting to 'upgrage' i decided i wanted to look for a grand cherokee. luckily my buddy had one on his used car lot... so i went and looked at it.
this is what i found:
a totally 'virgin' '96 grand cherokee with the 5.2L V8, full-time all-wheel-drive and pretty much loaded expect for the sunroof and leather. it came with the factory upcoungry package which had the front and rear hooks, skid plates and 1" taller coil springs. sadly, the origional rims were long gone.
first thing i did was to replace the nutsty passanger tires with some bfg all-terrains and went up in a size to 31" in anticipation of putting a lift on it
(notice the lack of fender clearance even with the 1" taller springs... also found out the back-spacing was wrong on the after-market rims and needed to go back to jeep rims)
a few months later i got the budget boost installed, as well as a brush guard and manged to pick up a set of 15x8 canyon rims off a wrangler.
after my stint as a trail guide the spacers for the budget boost decided they were no longer worthy of life and disappeared into the unknown. i upgraded to the 4wd hardware 2" lift kit and what a world of difference it made. cosmetically i also painted all the cladding black since the stock grey was really faded and rather ugly
after a few trips through a stream, a run in with a rather large rock and a siesta in a mud hole, i finally killed the motor. sadly it has sat for over a year and not moved... but now there is a plan!
