so, like most things in life, there are 100's of options when it comes to drive line possibilities i think i am pretty much set on running a black-box gear reduction system between the transmission and tcase. effectively gives me another set of low-range gears. the question is, what transfer case... here are my options: - NP 231 - stock (2.72 ratio with rear slip yoke) - cost = free (already have it)
- NP 231 - modded (4:1 low with SYE) - cost = $1300
- Stak Dana 300 (4.1 low, HDtail shaft) - cost = $2000
- Stak 3-speed (lots of gear options) - cost = $2700
basically to run a "good" tcase i have tp spend at least $1300 to get the low range kit and the sye for the 231. if i pony up another $700 i can go with a stak dana 300 which would be a lot stronger as well as give me the option of running a parking brake on the output shaft and thus not need a rear axle parking brake... for another $700 from the stak dana 300 i could run a stak 3-speed box with a range of gearing options (lowest set up gives me a 150:1 crawl ratio) lots of options... but i only want to do this ONCE... i figure the best bang-for-the-buck is to get the stak d300 and be done with it... that will give me FWD since it is twin-sticked and not over-complicate issues with running both a black-box AND a multi-speed case. other option is i drop the black box and just run the stak 3-speed... so yeah, options-options-options
